Canon Pairing Guide
This guide covers pairing and using your BLU2 (BLU2Pro or BLU2Lite) with Canon cameras. BLU2 supports the EOS R50 and other BLE-enabled Canon EOS models.
How BLU2 Works With Canon
BLU2 acts as a wireless shutter remote for Canon cameras. It can fire the shutter and control autofocus. Unlike GoPro, DJI, and Insta360 cameras, Canon cameras do not send status information back over Bluetooth, so BLU2 cannot display whether the camera is recording or show battery and storage levels.
Before You Start
- Turn on your Canon camera.
- Make sure BLU2 is awake and next to the camera (shake it or press the button).
Pairing Steps
EOS R50
- Power on the camera.
- Go to Menu > Connections
- Select Connect to Wireless Remote
- Select Add a device to connect to
- Put BLU2 into pairing mode: hold the button for 7 seconds until the LEDs flash yellow and blue.
- The camera will detect and pair with BLU2.
- Click Ok
Other BLE-Enabled EOS Models
The pairing process is similar across Canon EOS models with Bluetooth support. Look for Bluetooth or Wireless communication settings in your camera's menu, enable Bluetooth, and select Pairing. Compatibility may vary by model.
What to Expect After Pairing
Once connected, BLU2 can trigger your camera but does not receive status information back:
- Shutter trigger: Using the 2.5mm jack install your remote into the BLU2Pro. The remote will focus the camera and release the shutter.
- Minimal recording indicator: The camera status LEDs will not show red during recording or video capture if they are initiated by the camera. It will show shutter release if it's initiated by the BLU2.
- No battery or storage warnings: BLU2 cannot display battery level or storage remaining for Canon cameras.
BLU2Pro 2.5mm Jack
On the BLU2Pro, the 2.5mm accessory jack provides independent focus and shutter control with a connected remote cable. A bite switch, tongue switch, or blow switch used in skydiving tend to have these two tied together.
- TRS-Ring to Ground: Activates autofocus
- TRS-Tip to Ground: Fires the shutter
Daily Use
After the initial pairing, BLU2 remembers your Canon camera. For daily use:
- Turn on your Canon camera.
- Wake BLU2 by shaking it or pressing the button.
- BLU2 will find your camera and connect automatically. No need to re-pair.
Switching Cameras
To use a different Canon camera (or a different camera brand entirely), simply put both devices into pairing mode. BLU2 will pair with the new camera and automatically detect the camera type.
